Welcome to the Citizen Cafe and Chambers: a place to rest and refuel where all are welcome. We are a unique social enterprise focused on hospitality and community that believes in the power of people; in the immense potential of what we can accomplish when we work together to take care of each other. We are comprised of an apartment and a restaurant that serve both locals and visitors alike. Fifty percent of our profits go toward supporting young surgeons who are completing their training with the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and South Africa (COSECSA) at the Mbale Regional Referral Hospital. Whether you need a comfortable place to stay in Mbale or just want to unwind at our beautiful rooftop restaurant, you can rest assured that you will be taken care of while directly contributing to expanding surgical services in Uganda -- let us take care of you so that we can better take care of each other. Our rooftop restaurant has a beautiful view of the lush greenery surrounding the neighborhood with the foothills of Mt. Elgon in the background. Here you can relax and unwind while sipping a fresh cup of locally grown coffee or enjoying a delicious meal prepared by our chef, all under the shaded comfort of our large thatch roof. We also offer free, high-speed WiFi in case you need to get some work done.
CITIZEN CHAMBERS
Our apartment is located in the heart of Mbale town. The apartment itself is in a historic building with traditional Indian architecture for which the region is known. The apartment has been carefully renovated without losing its architectural sensibilities. It is a walkable distance to the main market in Mbale where you can get the freshest fruits, vegetables, and local foods to prepare in the apartment's minimal kitchen.
